Therapy services for children, adolescents, and families.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a way of conducting therapy that includes the use of art as a means to facilitate communication, self expression, and understanding.

Art in Therapy

Being a graduate of Art Therapy, I tend to incorporate different types of creativity into my practice. Whether it is painting or drawing, writing or music, games or play—I strive to include a client’s passions and interests into therapy sessions. Some people might be intimidated by the word “art” but the therapy room is meant to be welcoming to all types of creativity, not just the trappings of pen-and-paper type art.

My Practice

As a therapist, I strive to connect with clients and families where ever they are in their journey to better lives. I received my Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy at Notre Dame de Namur University, and received my LMFT license while practicing with San Mateo County, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. I have specialized experience in working with children, teens, and families with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for emotional disturbance and other qualifying criteria that impact a student’s ability to fully benefit from their education.

Individual Therapy

I work with children, adolescents/teens, and families that struggle with symptoms of depression and anxiety, such as panic attacks, increased irritability, social withdrawal, and suicidal thoughts. Many of these symptoms impact children’s school and social life, making it difficult for them to make friends or focus on their education. Exploring the client’s life both in and outside of the home helps me to collaborate with all family members included in treatment as we move toward positive change together.

Group Therapy

I am currently recruiting for two, closed teen groups:

Self Portrait Group—A group for high school, teen women and trans women to explore self confidence and increase self esteem. Simple art instruction is used to help clients become acclimated to art materials and and basic facial structure, culminating in a portrait in an art style of their choosing. Clients are encouraged to explore ideas about their self and support each group member’s process.

Journalling Group—A co-ed group for high school teens of any gender orientation or expression. Using peer support and written expression, clients explore ways to cope and manage symptoms of anxiety and depression.
